On its demise, a Trackback hack
Tom Coates says Trackback is dead. I've no reason to disbelieve him, although having a much less-visited website I don't have the same problem he has with ping after ping of Trackback spam.

But as people all over the web begin to turn off Trackback on their posts, we're left with some redundant and potentially very useful Yes/No metadata to attach to a weblog post.

Scrub away all that old-fashioned MTPings and MTEntryTrackbackLink stuff and you're left with a handy IF/ELSE loop (MTEntryIfAllowPings), kindly built in by a far-sighted Six Apart.

So with just a little tinkering, Movable Type and TypePad webloggers can now get their posts to look or behave differently, depending on whether they've ticked their "Accept TrackBacks" box or not.

Now there's an elegant solution just begging for a problem.

I've got a few ideas how I might use this. If you have, send me a Trackback. For now.
