Filming the void
Keith Partridge films Nick Crane abseiling off the In Pinn, Skye
20·09·09 Filming the void

Ever wondered how a camera operator gets those amazing shots in vertical, hard-to-reach places? Well the answer is a lot of experience, planning and some intricate ropework.

The chap holding the camera in this shot is Keith Partridge of Adventure Camera. He was an amazing guy to work with - his credits include Touching the Void, Beckoning Silence and the Top Gear: Climber versus Car episode.

For the BBC Scotland Munros documentary, Keith filmed all the climbing sequences on the In Pinn, Skye.

The day after, we spent a happy 10 hours driving around north-west Scotland, filming some of the country's most spectacular mountains in beautiful spring weather. If only all work days could be like that.

This will probably be my last photograph in this series, and it's really just a reminder that the programme's on tonight: 9pm on BBC Four.

Chris: Well, a brilliant programme - we enjoyed every minute of it - spectacular scenery, a really interesting story line throughout, Nick at his best and great knowing that you were an integral part of quite a bit of it - well done!

Of course the stills were all magnificent, including the one above

Glad you enjoyed it. Lots of good shots and an amazing variety of weather considering it was filmed over 10 days.
